Onion rings have long been popular in the US, Canada and Australia. The author of this recipe is unknown. According to one version, the recipe for onion rings was first published in a New York magazine in 1910. Over time, it has become a traditional snack in many restaurants, bars, pubs and fast food chains. Today we will cook onion rings in beer batter. In fact, there is nothing difficult in preparing this snack. It is only necessary to make a batter, dip the onion rings in them, roll them in breading and then deep-fry. We will use beer for batter, but if desired, it can be replaced with mineral water with gas.
Crack an egg into a bowl. Let's add light beer to it. It is important that the beer is cold, then the batter will turn out to be more airy and bubbly. Beat the mixture with a whisk until smooth.
In parts, we introduce wheat flour, salt and spices into the egg-beer mixture. To make the batter without lumps, sift all the dry ingredients through a sieve.
The result should be a thick salty batter with a uniform texture.
Let's prepare the bow. Cut off the tails and peel the onion from the husk. Cut the vegetables into circles 1 centimeter thick. Let's break the pieces of onion into rings. We only need the biggest ones. Small pieces can be used for other recipes.
Now we need to bread all our blanks. To do this, completely lower the onion ring into the batter. Let the excess liquid drain, after which we roll the onion ring in breadcrumbs from crushed crackers. If desired, breadcrumbs can be prepared independently by drying slices of a baguette or loaf in the oven and grinding them in a blender to crumbs.
When all onion rings are covered with batter and breadcrumbs, put a frying pan or stewpan with oil on medium heat. It is important that it is refined and does not have a pronounced smell. An air fryer can be used if desired. When the oil is hot, put the vegetable preparations into it. Fry them to a delicious brown color on both sides. It is convenient to turn the rings over with forks or cooking tongs.
Put the fried onion rings on a dish with paper towels, they will absorb excess vegetable oil. We will serve the finished snack immediately after preparation or already chilled with various sauces and cold drinks.
