Glög is a Scandinavian Christmas drink. It first appeared in Finland, when spices and tangerine peels were added to low-quality wine during the Middle Ages to make it taste and aroma richer. We will prepare glög non-alcoholic, which also warms perfectly.
Classic glög is made from red wine with the addition of spices and fruits. This warming drink is served hot with cookies or other pastries. The set of spices for glög should be approached creatively. In addition to traditional cinnamon and cloves, you can add ginger, candied orange or a couple of allspice peas to the drink. However, do not add too many spices – the taste may turn out bitter.
Today we will prepare warming glög non-alcoholic. As a base, blackcurrant, grape or lingonberry juice is best suited. To make the taste of the drink brighter, you can additionally add apple juice to it.
If desired, the number of certain products can be changed to your liking.
Pour ground nutmeg into a deep saucepan, add clove buds, a few stars of star anise and cinnamon sticks. For flavor, add tangerine peels. Suitable both fresh and chopped dried. Pour the ingredients with water at room temperature. Put the pan on medium heat and bring the liquid to a boil. Then cover the bowl with a lid and leave to infuse for 5 minutes. Then we strain the fragrant broth through a strainer with a fine grate.

Add flower honey to the filtered liquid.
Pour apple juice into a saucepan. If you have homemade fruit juice, feel free to use it, it will make glög even tastier.
Then add blackcurrant juice to the rest of the ingredients. Stir the mixture and put it on a slow fire. While stirring so that the honey is completely dissolved, bring the glög to a temperature of 75-80 degrees. Do not let the drink boil, otherwise the honey will lose its beneficial properties from high temperature. If you are allergic, replace honey with sugar.
Pour some dark raisins into tall glasses made of thick glass. Add a cinnamon stick to each serving. Pour hot drink into glasses and serve immediately before it cools down.
Enjoy your meal!
