The taste of spicy salted capelin is piquant and rich, compared to the store-bought version – it is much tastier. You will definitely like the delicate taste of lightly salted fish! As for the ingredients – everything is very simple and affordable. Buy frozen capelin and prepare all the necessary spices. A few hours and a little patience – and the appetizer will be ready. An ordinary fish will turn into a real delicacy! According to this recipe for spicy salted capelin at home, you can also salt any other small fish – sprat, anchovy or tulka.
Fill the prepared container for marinating the fish with spices and salt. Any spices will do, but in this case dried cloves, allspice peas and bay leaves will be good. If desired, you can add mustard seeds. Spices are important here, as they will give the capelin an incredible spicy aroma.
Pour hot water into the spices. It is not necessary to boil the water, it is enough to heat it to 60-70 degrees so that the salt dissolves and the spices reveal their aromas. Stir the resulting brine and leave it to cool to room temperature. During this time, all the spices will begin to work and give off their flavor. According to this recipe, the fish turns out moderately salty, or rather lightly salted. If you are preparing spicy capelin for the first time, then in the future you will be able to adjust the recipe to your own taste, since everyone has different preferences for saltiness and spices. But do not overdo it with spices, otherwise the capelin may taste bitter.
Then put all the washed capelin into the prepared spicy brine. For the recipe, buy frozen fish, then defrost it, rinse it thoroughly and use for marinating. The capelin should be fresh, beautiful, with a silvery hue, without yellow spots. Put the container with the fish in the refrigerator for 8-10 hours, let the capelin marinate well.
Then serve the finished snack. Remove the fish from the spicy brine and treat everyone who wants it. You can supplement the spicy salted capelin recipe at home with pickled onions, fresh herbs or fragrant sunflower oil. Boiled potatoes are a great side dish! Spicy salted capelin is delicious and original, you won’t buy this in a store.
Enjoy your meal!
